What class do I sign up for?

If you or your child have never skated before, or have never had any formal training, we recommend starting in the following classes: Snowplow Sam 1 (SPS1) for ages 3-6; Basic 1 (BS1) for ages 6.5 / 7 and older; Hockey 1 – 4 is recommended for children who would like to pursue Hockey, and have little or no skating experience, ages 3 – 7.

What is the class progression?

After Snowplow Sam 1, ages 3-5 advance to Snowplow Sam 2, 3, 4 and then to Basic 2.  After Basic 1, ages 6.5+ advance to Basic 2-6 levels, then on to Pre-Freeskate, then to Freeskate 1-6 levels. After Hockey 1-4, we recommend the child enter into the Introduction to Hockey program offered through Washington County Hockey Association.

How do I get to be part of the annual Ice Show?

The Ice Show is our end of season showcase of all of our skaters. It is a very exciting experience to be a part of. Any skater that is registered in a Learn to Skate class within our program, or is a KMFSC member is welcome to be a part of the Ice Show.  Visit the Ice Show section of our website for more details with the date and times of the show. We welcome all skaters to join the Ice Show.

How do I practice my skating?

To progress through the skating classes and get the most out of your lessons, it is recommended for each ½ hour lesson that a skater practices for 1 hour on their own time. The club has many open ice times to practice. Visit the Practice Ice section of our website to learn about the times, dates, and prices for practice ice. You may also choose to work one on one with a certified coach.

How do I choose a coach?

Many skaters choose to work with a coach one-on-one to develop their skills, and progress faster. Working with a coach can offer the opportunities to participate in competitions and test sessions. Visit the Coach section on our website to learn about the coaches. You may email them directly to determine availability and ask questions. You may also ask the Learn the skate coach to see if they are available for private coaching.

What is the best place to buy skates or skating apparel?

Many times throughout the season, we offer a used skate/apparel sale at the rink during Learn to Skate sessions. This is a great way to buy used skates/equipment or to sell your skating equipment.

How do I learn more about the Kettle Moraine Figure Skating Club or upcoming events?

Our website is continually updated to provide the most up to date information. We also have bulletin boards located at the rink with current information. Like us on Facebook or ask a club member or board member. We are always available to answer your questions.
